What Is Athletes Foot?
Athletes foot is a fungus which appears to grow on the top of the skin in between toes, the web areas where it is moist and warm. The appearance would be inflammation areas that are itching but can develop into dry cracked skin. If the fungus is left untreated where the skin is cracked there is a risk of infection therefore spreading to the toes.
What Causes It?
The fungus thrives in moist warm areas and it is a fungi (dermatophytes). They feed off your skin and hair as they contain protein (keratin). Generally it appears when the immune system is reduced, malabsorption, toxins leaving body compromised and vulnerable to fungal overgrowth. If you have Diabetes or heart disease them you are more at risk. Athletes foot is mildly contagious by walking barefoot in shower or swimming baths, but some people are more susceptible than others.
Athletes foot usually accompanied by a Candida overgrowth in other areas such as the intestinal tract.
How Can Athletes Foot Be Treated?
It is best to treat the area as soon as the itching occurs by an anti fungal cream, however more severe or resistant cases you will need to see your GP. Healing can only occur with proper nutrition and elimination of toxins.
